2012-2013
January 2012 - YPM opens six-bedroom emergency youth shelter in Lithonia/Stone Mountain. YPM is invited and joins the Rockdale Community Resource Network. February 2012 - YPM works with A&E Television show Beyond Scared Straight. Producers select YPM referred students to participate in show being recorded at Fulton County, GA Jail. Stone Mountain native and teacher Reginald McCutchen leads students, teachers and the Men of Distinction and hosts Volunteer Outreach for youth shelter at Stephenson High School. Over $5000 in financial contributions and supplies are donated. April 2012 - YPM becomes a member of the Rockdale Coalition for Children & Families March 2012 - YPM joins the Gwinnett Coalition for Health & Human Services April 2012 - YPM is one of the first members to join the DeKalb County Community Collaborative September 2012 - Beyond Scared Straight featuring YPMers is aired on A&E. July 2012 - Through a partnership with CBS Outdoors, YPM ads appear for four months on MARTA trains and buses September 2012 - YPM Hosts the Homeless District Liasions from DeKalb, Fulton and Atlanta Public Schools to partner October 2012 - YPM's Executive Director wins Youth Services Award from the DeKalb County chapter of the NAACP. December 2012 - YPM conducts 6th Annual Holiday Charity Mixer and distributes over 200 toys and coats to youth at the DeKalb County Recreation Center in Lithonia YPM makes it's first PSA YPM joins the United Way's Regional Commission on Homelessness. 2010-2011
February 2011 – YPM provides over 200 emergency survival kits to runaway and homeless youth in metro Atlanta area (through April 2011)
YPM Executive Director visits Agape Village of Hope International in Kumasi, Ghana and forms formal partnership to help bridge gap between students in Ghana and Atlanta.
May 2011 – YPM forms official partnership with Renovacion Coynugal who provides assistance to outreach Latino youth and parenting workshops to their families.
June 2011 – YPM begins the Open Hearts Behavioral Health Program for youth
5-18 years old who are in school and need mental/behavior health counseling coupled with youth development services.
August 2011 – To date, 78 youth and families have received mental/behavior health counseling services.
YPM donates three computers to one homeschooled and two disabled middle students at Stephenson Middle School.
September 2011 – With assistance from State Representative Dar’shun Kendrick, and support from the DeKalb County Parks & Recreation Department, YPM opens the DeKalb Teen Club at the DeKalb County Redan Recreation Center.
YPM secures federal grant to open the Open Hearts Youth Shelter, providing emergency shelter and positive youth development services to youth 10-18 years old who are runaways, homeless and other street youth. The Open Hearts Youth Shelter is the first of its kind serving DeKalb, Rockdale and Newton County youth.
YPM, along with the Eford Group International, obtain $35,000 worth of computers and technical assistance from the Technology Bridge Foundation for Aduman Senior High School in Kumasi, Ghana.
November 2011 – YPM receives street outreach training and staff participates in outreach to homeless kids in City of Atlanta with Stand Up For Kids—helps provide services to 35 youth in crisis.
Congressman Hank Johnson congratulates YPM, with an official press release, for receiving federal grant to open Open Hearts Youth Shelter in the Fourth Congressional District.
Pastor Ronald Owens, Senior Pastor of New Bethel AME Church joins YPM as the Chaplain.
As part of YPM’s 5th Annual Charity Giveaway, YPM gives over 300 toys to low-income children at the DeKalb County Redan Recreation Center and the Rockdale Center for Children and Families (with Representative Dar’shun Kendrick).
2009-2010
Dec. 2009 – Opened the Alford Neighborhood Center in Lithonia, GA.
Dec. 2009 – 3rd year partnership with Atlanta’s Toys for Tots. Distributed 150 toys to neighborhood residents.
February 2010 – Volunteer painters from several Atlanta sororities paint the Alford Center for YPM.
Feb. 2010 – April 2010 -- The Alford Neighborhood Center served as a Low-Income Heating & Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) program site for Partnership for Community Action (PCA) the first one in Commission District #7. With a cadre of 12 volunteers per week who worked six-hour shifts for three days:
· Processed 842 Stone Mountain, Lithonia, Decatur and Rockdale residents came through our doors and received $255,000 in home heating assistance.
· Processed 122 applications at the Colony Apartments on No. Hairston for residents without transportation.
· Processed 134 Food Stamp applications
· Provided 256 referrals to United Way agencies
· Made 11 referrals to child mental health services
· Moved 1 Stone Mountain Senior citizen out of a bad housing situation
March 2010 – Conducted a free workshop for ex-offenders utilizing the Georgia ACLU’s curriculum.
March 2010 – In conjunction with DeKalb County--participated in the Great American Clean-Up and conducted the Alford Road Neighborhood Clean-up.
April 2010 – Conducted a free Self-Defense class for women to counter the Stone Mountain rapists attacks (24 attendees).
May 2010 – Worked with DeKalb County’s Department of Public Works and had Alford Road sidewalk repaired after senior residents complained for nearly a year.
May 2010 – Processed and uploaded 143 application for Georgia’s Teen Work program and worked with DeKalb County liaison to provide jobs for young people in foster care and receiving TANF. In 2009, the GADOL and ARC held a YPM outreach session and provided all who showed up with employment. In addition, we helped the DeKalb County Workforce Development screen and register 100 Stone Mountain and Lithonia young people at their offices.
June 2010 – Hosted a teen party where 50 young people were expected; over 200 showed up.
Two young people complete community service hours with YPM, via DeKalb County Juvenile Court.
July 2010 – Conducted community yard sale and fish fry. Krogers on Covington Highway donated 120 sodas.
September 2010 – Received $2,500 financial support from the Staples Foundation.
September 2010 – Opportunity to serve as a Mobile Benefit Screener or Benefits Screen Outreach Site for The Atlanta Prosperity Campaign (APC), an initiative of the Atlanta Community Food Bank to screen working individuals and families for public benefits (food stamps, health care for children, subsidized child care, Medicaid, etc.)
December 2010 – Partnership with Sylvan Tutoring Services and Serenity Tutoring to provide free tutoring services to DeKalb County students at the Alford Neighborhood Center.
December 2010 – Collected $100, $100 Walmart gift cards, 15 pairs of new sneakers, 50 toys and 10 MP3 players for Gathering of Hearts to distribute to Mississippi families.
December 2010 – Conducted 4th Annual Holiday Drive with partnership with Atlanta Toys for Tots and individual donors. Distributed over 140 toys and a coat to children who attend DeKalb County’s Hamilton Recreation Center in Scottdale, GA.
December 2010 – YPM partnership formed with Agape Village of Hope International in Kumasi, Ghana.
2008-2009
Received $5,000 grant funding from the Georgia Department of Education to develop the nation’s 1st high school dedicated to nonprofit management and human services.
Received $1,000 from the Walmart Foundation.
Selected as a United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta 211 Agency.
Developed the Chad Charter High School for Nonprofit Management and Human Services (CHS). Advisory Board members and collaborators include: Hands On Atlanta, Clayton State University’s School of Business, City of Riverdale government, United Way in Butts, Clayton and Henry Counties, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, Lite House Partners, The Hauser Center for Nonprofit Management at Harvard University and George Washington University.
Created Emerging Nurses Program with Georgia State University’s Byrdine F. Lewis School of Nursing to recruit and retain students through a federally granted program.
Received legal counsel from Alston + Bird, Troutman Sanders, as one of the nonprofit organizations with the Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta.
Began the DeKalb Teen Club at 16,000 square foot center in Decatur.
Executive Director selected as a member of the DeKalb County Citizen’s Review Board to help deter children from being placed in foster care.
Distributed 100 toys to a family of 10 in the Collier Apartments in Atlanta.
Received an award from Toys from Tots for participation in our 2nd Annual Holiday Mixer held at Eros in Buckhead which raised 200 toys and books.
Selected as a member of the Clayton County Juvenile Court Gang Alternatives & Interventions Nexus (GAIN).
Formed partnership with Clayton County Sheriff’s Department and the Clayton County Police department to provide gang prevention activities and the exploration of creating a Police Athletic League (PAL).
Awarded a partnership with the National Christina Foundation to distribute computers to disabled middle school students.
Created 1st year-round Teen Employment Program. YPM Member and program featured in the AJC (4/19/09).
YPM members invited and participated in the former NFL Kevin Henry Football Camp
Founded the Georgia Youth Prevention Policy Board (GYPPB) in May 2009 of 25 organizations (and growing) who are creating Georgia’s 1st Youth Services Directory and works to help all Georgia’s youth.
Coordinated Community Education Workshop for unemployed youth, business and dislocated workers at the invitation of the Georgia Department of Labor (July 2009).
